Image
Blurb - Set over the course of twenty-four hours, One Last Drink at Guapa follows Rasa, a gay man living in an unnamed Arab country, and trying to carve out a life for himself in the midst of political and social upheaval. Rasa spends his days translating for Western journalists, and pining for the nights when he can sneak his lover, Taymour, into his room. Then one morning Rasa's grandmother, the woman who raised him, catches them in bed together. The following day — the day leading up to Taymour's wedding — Rasa is consumed by the search for his best friend Maj, a fiery activist and drag queen star of the underground bar, Guapa, who has been arrested by the police. Ashamed to go home and face his grandmother, and reeling from the potential loss of the three most important people in his life, he roams the city’s slums and prisons, the lavish weddings of the country’s elite, and the bars where outcasts and intellectuals drink to a long-lost revolution. Let's get into the book The Grand-master of Demonic Cultivation: A book review

Image
This review is for the absolutely amazing book that is Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu. It is alternatively known as Mo Dao Zu Shi and The Founder of Diabolism .   Usually I am not this whipped for a story, but for this one I am whipped. Whipped people, completely, madly and unabashedly whipped. Send Help. The blurb- As the grandmaster who founded demonic cultivation, Wei WuXian roamed the world in his wanton ways, hated by millions for the chaos he created. Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe: A book review

Image
This book made me feel secret things in secret places that I didn’t know I had. A gentle love, a gentle cry, a little laughter and a lots of sad. But it was a good sad, you know. The sad you feel when you meet your friend in a long time. The sad when you see the sky bright and want it to last forever. A nostalgic sad. I liked this sad. This book is a gentle love letter to Dante and I love that. Hi everyone. This book review is on Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz. I had been wanting to read this book for a long time, so when my sister brought it home I jumped at the chance. She borrowed it from her friend who has a review blog as well. Apparently, I also found out that my sister also has more interesting friends than I do. Hmmmmmm……. Interesting. Do go and check out her blog. Click to check out her blog The book starts with “ The problem with my life was that it was someone else’s idea .” This is also where my love aff...

The Catcher in the Rye- A book review

Image
I just completed The Catcher in the Rye  and I still have no idea what the plot or the theme or the point of this book was. Or why it was written. Why did you write this book J.D. Salinger ? This was a slow read for me, probably because it was a slow book. I read this book because I was getting tired of eBooks and this book just sat on my shelf mocking me. This quarantine has me functioning on a low budget and no friends. I just want to buy some books or borrow them from people. Can I borrow people. Is people starved a thing? But right now people are like cats, you have to coax them to meet you, but they still don’t. Do I have to give them the right kind of food? What is the right kind of food?   Yo people of the world what kind of food do you like. Let’s talk about the book though. Maybe I read it at a wrong age. I am too old for this shit. There was too much teenage. Too much angst. Like, just take a chill pill bro. Please relax. But then I am in college an...

She of the Mountains: A book review

Image
Aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Love love love Sorry if I am a bit incoherent, but that is the effect this book has on me. I mean, shit. I think I am crying. Let me cry though. Let me cry and revel in this feeling of pure and unadulterated joy. My heart. Its aching.  But this time it’s because I am so touched. Also, side note absolutely unnecessary, but I think I am in love. In love with the writing style, in love with the storytelling, in love with every word that is written here. The perspective is so beautiful. This is why we are lonely. Hmmmmmmmm…….. Sigh. That’s me utterly satisfied. Her words feel like echoes, you hear them even when they are not there. Sooo, anyways let’s get started. I picked up the book in continuation of my resolve to read all the books in the PopSugar 2020 reading challenge to-read list that I had made waaaay back when it was 2 ° C, and my way of warming myself was making lists. I made lists, I forgot about them. Then quarantine happened. Well i...

Unspeakable Things:A book review

Image
I picked up this book in an attempt to complete my PopSugar Challenge 2020. This book was in the challenge named ‘A book published in 2020’. I don’t remember whether I read the blurb before picking this book as I made the to-read list so long ago. But better late than never right! This is the review of “ Unspeakable Things by Jess Lourey” . I don’t usually read horror or books that are set in the real world beyond romance, I mean why read about horrible things when there’s enough horror in the real world already. The book started on a really high note, struggled in the middle and rushed in the end. It built up an excellent premise, but the suspense was at its all-time high in the first few chapters and then it slowed down. I was really curious about the events of the book when I read the authors note, and the preface definitely pulled me towards reading the book. But as the book progressed, the main plot of the book somehow felt lost in all the details. This book continuously rem...

Roses are Blood Red- A book review

Image
I don’t think I expected to the book to take the turn it did. HA. Who am I kidding, I never could ever have predicted the way this book shaped up to be? Also, what genre would I classify this book as. Romance? eh……. Thriller? But…. Is 'weird' a classification? This book review is on Roses are Blood Red by Novoneel Chakraborty. I was recently given this book as a gift by a friend. After I read a couple of chapters I asked her what the fruck did she give me to read, and that was my mood for the rest of the book. When I first read the book, I found the male protagonist tacky with his cheesy and often overbearing lines about true love. Then he punched the girl. Then he ‘cheated’ !? on her. Then he said that he loved only her and that she was the reason for his existence. It was very confusing. As the story proceeded, the 1 st part of the book left us with more questions than answers. I thought that maybe when his past is revealed I might see him in a favorable light. But...

Gods of Jade and Shadow- A book review

Image
Once upon a time (4 months ago) I was a jaded girl, I believed neither in magic nor the beauty of the world. For you see when I was a wee little girl of 13, I started reading books and by the time I reached 19 I had already exhausted the young adult fantasy genre. Every book I read after that felt like a parody of the series that I had loved like Harry Potter, Artemis Fowl, Mercy Thompson, Percy Jackson and many more. I started feeling empty. I looked at romance for a while, but quickly realized that romances have the same stories told differently. I liked the genre, but I was someone who had once explored deepest creeks and the tallest mountains, survived Tartarus and held power in my hands, oh! such power; so, even though I liked romance I missed all the crazies. I rediscovered the fantasy genre when I finnally read the Hobbit. And so, I think I have started to find my way into fantasy again. This review is about the second book in the journey of myths and magic that I am slo...
